Native South Carolinian Tripp Smith grew up in Charleston, where
he cultivated an appreciation for the beauty of light on the
Lowcountry landscape. He earned a bachelor’s degree in media
arts studying photography at the University of South Carolina.
Then, returning to Charleston, he served as an apprentice to
noted local photographers.
Within a few years, Tripp had
worked with more than twenty photographers worldwide and had
initiated a freelance career of his own. Through these
experiences, he developed a passion for architectural
photography. By 1998, Tripp began shooting full-time, crafting
expressive and powerful images for architects, interior
designers, developers, and residential and commercial property
owners.
He now travels throughout the
southeast to capture new projects using professional-grade
large-format (4x5in) and medium-format (6x7cm) camera equipment.
Tripp produces dramatic architectural photographs that feature
perspective control, color correction, and fine digital
retouching suitable for publications, trade show exhibits,
marketing collateral pieces, and electronic media including web
pages. He aims to create memorable architectural photographs
that stand independently as powerful images while reflecting the
unique details of each assignment.
